What To Do When HR Is The Problem?
HR is having an affair with the VP. HR lies straight to my face. HR has no integrity, why should I? I’m in the HR Department and I don’t trust the Sr. Leader of HR.
Have you ever heard these stories? I have heard them all – and they are all true. And we wonder how HR gets a bad name. We wonder why employees don’t trust HR.
HR and senior leadership often state that managers are held to a higher standard when it comes to discipline for inappropriate behavior. HR must be held to the same high level that managers are held to. Most every company I know has a Code of Conduct and/or a Code of Ethics that addresses behavior. As leaders within a company we need to follow these Codes without compromise if we are to earn and maintain the trust of employees.
If you are an HR person or if you are a CEO who has HR staff that are not people of integrity, it’s time to make some changes. HR person – change your ways, even if that means getting therapy. Or maybe it’s time to get out of HR. CEO – put the HR person on a performance improvement plan and if there are not drastic changes within 60-90 days, it’s time for that HR person to leave your organization. You cannot afford to have leaders that are not honest and trustworthy. It will only bring your company down.
Be a courageous leader. It’s up to you to make the changes. LEAD.
